Flooring Epoxy Benefits

Manufacturer of Epoxy Products

As a manufacturer of epoxy flooring materials, we can create a material that brings a whole host of benefits to its user. These types of epoxy floor coatings are commonly used for commercial and industrial flooring applications. Epoxy coatings are normally applied over concrete floors in order to provide a high-performance, smooth and durable surface. One that lasts for years and years and can withstand heavy loads. Epoxy flooring is commonplace at industrial sites, warehouses, and commercial buildings. These are locations where the maintenance and safe conditions for workers, equipment and inventory is paramount.

Here are some of the most notable advantages one gains by properly applying epoxy floor coatings over concrete compared to other materials.

  • Quick and easy to install. It requires no layout, cutting of additional adhesives, or the use of special tools or equipment.
  • Prevents normal wear and tear on existing concrete floors.
  • Creates a durable, hard-wearing surface that can withstand heavy and continuous traffic. Ideal for industrial settings.
  • Easy to clean and requires little to no major maintenance.
  • Superior resistance to oil stains and water.
  • The creation of a shiny, high-gloss surface that increases the brightness of an interior area perfect for warehouses and industrial applications.
  • Surface is seamless and can last for many years.
  • Contains anti-slip additives, which in turn increase the safety of any location.
  • Offers a chemically resistant surface that is ideal for manufacturing plants.
  • Combine epoxy flooring with paints and colors to help mask any chipping and/or cracks.
  • Apply it in different patterns in order to create a visible driveway and/or to identify walkways.
  • Compatibility with self-leveling products that users can apply over new and old concrete.

Preparation of Epoxy Flooring Coats

While preparing for laying down some epoxy floor coating, it is crucial to remember a few things. First off, an epoxy coating for a floor requires a clean and slightly porous surface in order to adhere properly. If the concrete is sealed or polished, it may not bond well or at all. The concrete should also be fully cured. Before the application, it is imperative that the concrete is patched up and all cracks and chips are repaired properly. Otherwise, the adhesion may not work properly. Lastly, any grease or other substance on the surface should be cleaned.

If the concrete is older, then testing the surface for previous layers of epoxy or other products that may have been applied is a smart idea. In order to test properly, pour a small amount of water onto the floor and see if it soaks in. If the water does soak in, it does not have any previous layers of sealer or epoxy. If the water beads on the surface instead, then it likely has been sealed before and may not be suitable for another epoxy coating.

Before any application of an epoxy floor coating, it is recommended to check if the temperature is suitable. Unfavorable temperatures may cause the epoxy to bubble and peel easily. Epoxy is a two-part liquid that you need to mix before application. Once properly mixed, there is a limited amount of time in order to apply the coating before it starts to harden. So, not having the floor prepped fully beforehand can lead to a waste of epoxy.

At Delta Polymers, we manufacture epoxy patching products and floor repair products, as well as various sealers. All products that can help you prepare for the application of epoxy flooring.

Epoxy Primer

Depending on the product and the actual application, there might be need for a primer. A primer is applied like paint and needs several hours to settle before applying the epoxy. When applying the primer, one needs to cover the floor with a thin layer of water, then spread the primer with a roller pin on a pole. This spreads out the primer over the entire floor and allows for optimal results. Once the primer is applied, let it dry and then apply a second coat. The finisher is applied in a similar way as the primer, except without the water layer.

Here are some primers Delta Polymers manufactures and sells.
