Repairing Process of Spalling of Concrete

Wholesale Distributor of Concrete Repair Products

Delta Polymers offers concrete repair products at affordable, wholesale prices. As suppliers of concrete repair products, we find it prudent to share the process to best utilize the concrete products for sale and how to repair the spalling of concrete. The repair of concrete spalling varies based on the severity of the damage, type and location of concrete structure. These repair compounds are perfect for use on driveways, walkways and other horizontal surfaces that may need repair work.

Of course, when it comes to the application, we recommend following what is on the label. However, this is a general process on how to repair the spalling of concrete.

1. Clean Spalled Concrete Area

Before doing any repair work, you must first clean the area and eliminate any dirt and stains. When stains and dirt build up, then you may need a pressure washer to properly clean off the surface. Once it is clean, then you can move to the next step.

2. Remove Loose Concrete

Step two is to remove any loose concrete from the area, which you can do using a hammer and chisel. Sometimes shot blasting or grinding may be needed for proper surface preparation. In order to conduct a successful repair, you must cut into the concrete a few centimeters. You can check for potential deterioration by using a hammer and tap around the area.

If you hear a hollow sound, it is a sign of deteriorated concrete and thus you should get rid of it. This step prevents the need for any future repairing of concrete. If necessary, you may need to cut out rectangular parts of the concrete for best results. Once all of this is complete, eliminate the dust and debris using a vacuum.

3. Clean and Coat Corroded Steel Bars

The next step is to clean the rebar from corrosion or other dirt using a wire brush. Then, apply a protective coating to avoid rusting.

4. Apply Repair Material Mixture

If the spalling depth is less than 1/3 of the concrete thickness, then you will likely only need a surface repair. Which our concrete repair products can perform admirably. However, for damage greater than 1/3 of the depth, then a full restoration may be required. Then you can roughen the affected surface and apply suitable adhesion agent to improve the bonding.

5. The Finishing Touches

You can use a trowel to scrape off the excess product and apply the finishing touches to the surface. You want to level it off.

6. Curing

Once you level off the surface, then you can cure the material to make sure it gains required strength.

7. Paint or Coat on Repaired Surface

Once everything is completely set, then you can apply paint or a waterproof membrane. Both of these materials will help to prevent spalling in the future.
